Sabina to undergosurgery in Morocco
Injured Scorchers attacker Sabina Thom is expected to undergo a surgery in Morocco on her knee following her injury at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon).
Thom was injured during the Scorchers’ last group match against Zambia which the team lost 2-1.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) operations director Gomezgani Zakazaka in an interview yesterday said they decided to let Thom remain in Morocco to complete the treatment.
He said: “She had a scan immediately after the injury. The results showed that she needs a surgery.
“That’s why she had to remain and complete the treatment, rather than coming back home.”
Coincidentally, Sabina is also based in Morocco where she plays for Phoenix Marrakech.
Though the injury left her devastated, she said she was proud that her teammates fulfilled the dream of reaching the final although they lost 3-0 to Cameroon.
Said Thom: “I am happy with my teammates because they worked very hard and fought until the end to reach the final.
“I am proud of them. Thanks FAM and technical panel for the love you showed me and for the good job.”
Meanwhile, most of the squad returned to Malawi on Wednesday to a heroines welcome in Lilongwe.
However, Chimwemwe Madise has returned to her club TP Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Defenders Ireen Khumalo and Tionge Phiri alongside midfielders Madyina Nguluwe and Chikondi Gondwe and striker Deborah Henry flew directly to Botswana where their club Silver Strikers Ladies is set to participate in CAF Women’s Champions League Cosafa Qualifiers.
